MMC (July 20, 2015)

I'm back again with Monday's Minutes. I am using all three prompts this week. It's 298 words.

Avery gripped the ladder rung and spat out the sawdust that had settled on his tongue. Perhaps he had been too hasty in his climb to the attic. As a result of his impatience, he had lost his balance, which had in turn made the ladder tip back and caused it to send down a shower of dust when it had hit the ledge again. Now Avery turned around to get a better look and immediately wished he hadn't. He was up so high, and it was a rather rickety ladder... Eager to have it over with, he resumed his ascent, making a mental note to ask his uncle to build a set of stairs in the ladder's place.

The boy was always amazed that there seemed to be something new to take interest in every time he visited the room. This time, it was a worn-looking suitcase in the far corner; he could have sworn it had not been there two weeks ago. He fumbled with the clasps for a minute, as it was not easy to see in the dim light. He gasped when it fell open rather quickly and its contents scattered across the floor. Chiding himself for his clumsiness, he scooped up a few of the fallen photographs and crossed to the window in order to examine them better. He uttered a cry of surprise when he saw whom they featured. He did not remember his little cousin looking this old. Wanting to be sure she was whom he assumed, he turned one over and read the writing on the back:

'Margaret Johnson, 1964, four and a half years old'

"That's a mistake," he thought. Because the last time anyone had seen her, she was three years old. And she'd been missing for two years.

Monday's Minute Challenge (July 6, 2015)

This is a very fun and very helpful challenge that I will be participating in every other week. Tessa Emily Hall hosts this challenge at her blog: http://christiswrite.blogspot.com/, and you should check it out:)

This week I used the sentence and picture prompts, and I'm continuing my story from last week. It's 304 words.

Krist smiled as he read through the questions and his answers. It was such an easy test.

What type of material are Meredith Daley's curtains in her bedroom?
Silk.

Which small creature disgusts her the most: a) Ants, b) Caterpillars, or c) Snails? The first.

From whom did Miss Daley receive the doiley on the end table in her living room? He frowned when he read over his answer. Of it, he was not certain. From the way in which she had reacted when he had taken the doiley, he supposed it had been given her by a close relative; probably one who had passed away. But nowhere had he been able to acquire definite information concerning that piece of lace. He shook his head in frustration when he read his response, knowing that it was false: The object in question was a gift from her grandmother when she moved into her apartment.

He turned the page, ready to be over with the whole thing. There was only one question uncompleted.

There is a cup of coffee on the counter in Miss Daley's kitchen when you arrive for your investigation. She has been gone some time - when you feel the cup, it's cold. There is more than half that has not been drunk, and, thirsting for information, you decide to have a swallow. Once finished, however, you note a message shakily scrawled at the bottom: "You've been poisoned." Has she really poisoned you? If yes, what poison has she used? If no, how do you know that you need take no precautions?

As he read this final problem, Krist was completely immersed in the written scenario. He wasted no time in thinking it through, but his conclusion was well formed. Taking up his pen once again, Krist smiled. And wrote the right answer.

New Blog

So, I made a new blog. I've been wanting to create one that I can use for my writing, and I finally got around to starting on it today. I will post updates on life, also, but I might not post about such things as often. I am putting that statement out there now so that I won't have to apologize later if I get behind in my updates;)

I like the way it's looking so far, but I am not done yet; so if it looks like it needs a bit of touching up, never fear.
